Natural Remedies to Boost Breast Milk Supply: My Trusted Favorites

When I struggled with breastfeeding, I turned to nature for help. Over time, I discovered a few herbs and foods that made a real difference—not just for me but for some of my close friends as well. These simple remedies have been tried, tested, and trusted. Let me take you through them like a story.

Garlic Boiled in Milk

Let’s start with the most unusual one—garlic boiled in milk. I know it sounds strange, and the taste might not be for everyone, but trust me, it works wonders! Here’s how I make it:

  • Take 3 to 4 garlic cloves (adjust the number based on your tolerance).
  • Chop them into small pieces.
  • Boil the garlic in a cup of cow’s milk until the cloves are soft.( If you allergic or intolerant to cow’s milk then boil them in water and add it to any non-dairy milk)
  • Turn off the heat, add a natural sweetener like honey or jaggery, and drink it.

Start with this once a day. You should notice a difference within 48 hours. If needed, you can gradually increase to twice a day. I prepare this whenever I feel my milk supply needs a boost.

Fennel seeds

Fennel seeds are another excellent remedy. They’re simple, effective, and have a pleasant taste:

  • Take one tablespoon of fennel seeds.
  • Boil them in a glass of water until it reduces to half.
  • Strain and drink this tea three times a day.
  • This tea not only helps with milk supply but also soothes digestion.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are well-known for supporting milk production and even help regulate insulin levels:

  • Soak a small handful of fenugreek seeds in water overnight.
  • In the morning, drink the water and, if you prefer, chew the softened seeds.
  • Incorporating this into your morning routine can have great benefits.

Cabbage

Cabbage is a simple but powerful addition to your diet. Regular consumption, whether raw in salads or cooked in meals, can help maintain a healthy milk supply.

Note: If you have thyroid issues, consult your doctor before including cabbage regularly, as it may affect thyroid function.

Stay Hydrated

One of the simplest and most effective ways to maintain a healthy milk supply is by staying hydrated. Breastfeeding mothers need extra fluids, so make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. Keep a water bottle handy and sip regularly, especially before and after feeding sessions.

Vitamin D Matters

Don’t forget to check your Vitamin D levels. Low levels of Vitamin D can impact milk production. If needed, work with your doctor to find the right supplements.

Final Thoughts

These natural remedies have helped me and others in our breastfeeding journeys. Each mother’s experience is unique, so try what feels right for you and listen to your body. And remember, a little support can go a long way. 💖

Happy breastfeeding!
